My name is John Edward Hunt, and ever since I was a little kid, I was intrigued by worlds beyond my own. The first book my mother bought me was about the Solar System, and at four years old, that's where the dream began. Every time we would visit my grandmother in Cape Cod, I would beg my uncle to watch Star Wars with me. I was fascinated by the idea of being able to travel to places far away that were totally different from one another. Then I lived with my grandfather for a while in Connecticut, who is of German descent, and whose house was ornately decorated with trinkets, clocks, and calendars in German. There was always a German dictionary and language-learning tapes laying around, and occasionally he would teach me some word or pronunciation that was foreign to me. It was so cool to me that in other places people spoke an entirely different language. I decided that I must learn as many as possible! I saw every language as a key to a door, unlocking a whole new world (cue Aladdin soundtrack).

Fast-forward to today; I've managed to become conversational in four languages, lived in five countries, and visited 21. People often ask me how I've been able to travel so much. Usually they assume I was in the military, or an exchange program, or that my family was wealthy enough to fund my adventures. But it was none of those. The bottom line is, I had a burning desire to experience other worlds where life was different, and I took every opportunity or risk that was presented to me that would take me there. The memories and friendships I've acquired, the knowledge and the wisdom that I've gained from these adventures are the most valuable thing I've come to own in my life- high above any material object or 401k. I've come to realize that the world is so big compared to how much time we have on it, that it is impossible to see it all. So when the opportunity to see something new arises, I take it, and I'm passionate about inspiring others to do the same.
